Lifestock shortage looming, meat ‘addicts’ have to adjust

Despite recommendations by heath experts that a person consume at least half a kilogram of red meat per week, the commodity has become part of many Tanzanians’ everyday meal.

It does not depend much on someone’s financial strength to eat meat as there are countless traders who sell it at barbecues along streets at affordable prices, often Sh100 per a single piece of roast.
Drinking beers is also seen as lacking impact without being accompanied by roast meat. Among some tribes, families cannot have a “decent”  meal unless there is meat in it even though many now find it hard to maintain such a lifestyle due to financial constraints.Read more
